Extract exactly the pages you need from a PDF. Enter page ranges like 1-3, 5, 8-10 and download a new PDF containing just those pages — free, private, no signup.
What is the Split PDF?
Split PDF online free means pulling the pages you actually need out of a PDF without installing software or uploading your file anywhere. This tool runs entirely in your browser: open a PDF, type the pages you want — like 1-3, 5, 8-10 — and download a new PDF containing exactly those pages, in the order you listed them.
Splitting is the opposite of merging, and it is just as useful. Need only chapter 4 from a 300-page ebook? Want the signed page out of a long contract? Need to remove the blank pages a scanner added? Instead of printing, screenshotting, or paying for desktop software, you extract precisely the range you need in seconds.
Because the whole operation happens locally on your device, even confidential documents are safe to split — nothing is transmitted anywhere. Page content keeps its original quality, since pages are copied rather than re-rendered. Your original file is never modified; the tool always creates a brand-new PDF, so you can split the same document many different ways without worry.
Splitting is also the easiest way to delete pages: instead of describing what to remove, you simply list the ranges to keep, and everything else is left out of the new file. Students pull chapters, offices isolate invoices, and anyone can carve a handout out of a lengthy report — all in seconds, all privately, all free.
How to use the Split PDF
- Click the upload area and choose the PDF you want to split. The file is read locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
- In the “Page ranges” box, type the pages you want to keep, for example 1-3, 5, 8-10. Single pages and ranges can be mixed freely, and spaces are fine.
- Click the “Split PDF” button. The tool copies your selected pages into a new document in the exact order you listed them.
- Download the new PDF, which contains only your chosen pages. Open it to verify the selection before sharing or printing.
- Want a different selection from the same file? Just run the tool again with new ranges — your original PDF is never changed.
Split PDF use cases
Extract a single chapter
Pull chapter 4 out of a 300-page ebook or manual to read on your phone without carrying the whole file. Students and researchers use this constantly to isolate the exact reading an assignment requires.
Remove unwanted pages
Scanners love adding blank pages, and reports often include filler you do not need. List only the ranges you want to keep, and the clutter disappears — no need to rebuild the document.
Isolate a signed page
Lawyers, landlords, and freelancers often need just the signature page from a long agreement as proof. Split it out in seconds and send a tiny file instead of the entire contract.
Separate bundled invoices
When a supplier sends one PDF containing a dozen invoices, split out each invoice’s pages so every document can be filed, forwarded, or paid individually. Your accounts team gets clean single-invoice files that match purchase orders one-to-one, instead of a jumbled bundle that has to be picked apart by hand.
Create samples and excerpts
Authors and course creators can extract the first chapter or a preview section as a sample PDF to share with readers, reviewers, or prospective students. A tight excerpt markets the full work far better than describing it, and a small sample file is easy for readers to download and pass along.
Tips
- Page numbering starts at 1, and ranges are inclusive: 1-3 gives you pages one, two, and three.
- To delete pages, list the ranges you want to KEEP and skip the rest — everything not listed is left out of the new file.
- If a range looks wrong, the tool tells you exactly how many pages the PDF has, so you can correct your entry.
- Reversed ranges like 5-3 are automatically corrected to 3-5; you do not need to retype them.
